The NSCA Motor City Shootout was a great race, with a huge crowd and excellent track preparation by the Mid-Michigan Motorplex crew.
Lets get right to it, I arrived there with Jerry Morgano as my point of focus. Jerry was looking at the facility and with some recent discoveries (we spend a lot of time on the phone) we thought we could pull off a 7 second pass.. we knew it’d be close but it would be the first SBC to perform that task in Modified Steet. We had the Hot Rod TV guys all hyped up about the proposition and they were filming as we laid on an 8.015 just shy of our goal. We made some tire temp discoveries and were going to step up the nitrous, but race day wisdom got the better of us. We left it alone and took the win instead. Good job guys.
In EZ street I was lurking with Bobby D Andrea, he had a new tune up given to him that was supposed to be the cats meow.. after examining the sparkplugs I saw a lot of upset little guys in there.. no one was really mad yet.. but none of those plugs were happy either. We debated a moment and elected to remove the new system and put his old system back on. The car loved it and Bobby cranked the car to an 8.862 final round win.
On to the NSCA World Finals in Columbus.
Morgano makes it into the SEVENS!! The learned technology from the last race paid off in Columbus. As Morgano went all the way to the final round again running consistent 7 second passes. That’s some professional tuning there guys, you never got greedy and my hats off to ya’! Good job.
In EZ Street two of my earliest customers in the class, Gary Rohe and Andy Mears were the final round pairing. Gary scoring the win with an 8.730 @ 156.81 mph. You just have to get up on the starting line sometime when these cars leave. Get your body right next to Rohe’s car and when he leaves its so hard he takes the wind right with him. The display of power and finesse with these cars is incredible.
In Limited Street Kim Mapes as you know suffered a pretty serious nitrous system failure. Melting the carburetor and the car. The system was removed and Steve Johnson from NOS stepped up and installed an NOS system and tune up on the car. The carburetor was sent back through our shop, repaired, re-flowed and put back to spec and with no testing at all Kim was off to Columbus. New tune up in hand, Kim made it all the way to the final round running in the 8.7 second zone and never hurt a part all weekend. Great job everyone that was involved with that program.
A quick congrats to John Baio and his TRZ racecar for scoring consistent 7 second passes and a final round berth in Super Street. You have to be pretty pleased with your season John. It was a pleasure working with you and on your car in Michigan.. its a real beauty.
Thanks for stopping in everyone and as always, if you have any sponsors you would like to thank, please include them in your E mail.
