Well as you know in the racing business the Research and Development never stops. The best way to build the best is to get to the track and work on these cars. So when the World Nationals rolled around and “Tricky” Rickie Smith requested that I come out and work with his program…I was there.

As you probably know Rickie is regarded as one of the best tuners in the country and after spending a week with him in his ICE COLD transporter…I can attest to that. Wow 85 degrees outside and frozen to the bone inside. If you look real close at the photo of me holding that sparkplug you can see my breath when I exhale. Just kidding. Anyway, Charlie Buck and I at Buck racing out of King NC (Rickie’s engine builder) have been doing a lot of work lately on Nitrous carburetor designs and we’re pretty happy with the programs we’ve developed to allow these cars to use nitrous without hurting parts. With three stages and all foggers…there’s a whole lot going on in there and I must’ve examined a couple hundred plugs that weekend (my eyes are still aching) from my various Pro-Mod, Pro-Stock, Top Sportsman and Top Dragster customers.

I will say one thing…everyone’s program is just a little bit different. So on a case by case basis we reviewed their programs and fortunately every customer made it into the show. We used Rickie’s transporter as a rolling headquarters and that was fortunate as some of the customers that were coming by with questions came in real handy when we had to change the transmission and rear gear ratios for the second round shot with Ronnie Hood. Unfortunately we blew through the clutch in the second round…there’s always next time.

.

Thanks to everyone that stopped by.

The Undertaker is still struggling a bit with his program…but made the show nevertheless. I was over there on more than a few occasions and I have to tell you…the engine program is sound. The woes are probably elsewhere. He’ll get it. Tommy Gray is very analytical and a super nice guy. Be sure to stop into his pit area and say “Hi” and tell him you’re rooting for him.

On the same subject, this is the finished version of what our new Nitrous Pro-IV Split Dominator for Pro-Mod is going to look like. We are still using our old hacked up versions on our R and D cars and when we finalize the layouts, this model will be pretty tough beat.

The idea here is to hit all the angles and run the heck out of it. This way you don’t have to have it upgraded every few months or so like we do Pro Stock carburetors.

Neither you or I have time for that. This same learned technology is immediately being transferred into our single carb designs as well…the results are impressive. Also a quick congratulations to our Pro-Stock test guy Jerry Yeoman…he won the recent race at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex in Stanton and then he arrived late for the World Nationals (still partying from Stanton Jerry?) and with only one shot at qualifying, he put the car in the number one slot. How does he do that!

Anyway, congrats to him and thanks for running the decals everyone.

At the recent NMRA event in Byron, IL , Bill Laskowsky used our 4150HP design carb to score his first victory in Hot Street action in just his second race. Tipping the scales at # 3425 , the G&M Racing (www.gamrace.com) powered Mustang recorded a 9.55 @ 143.5 mph in the final with the highlight of the day being a 300 ft bumper dragging wheelstand in the semi-finals which saw Billy grabbing third gear while still in the air! Are these guys nuts or what? Greg Lankford of G&M Racing stated , ” Under the strict guidelines we have for cylinder heads and intakes in Hot Street, we have to find every advantage we can get. The carb is still just like it was when it came “out of the box”.

John Baio is making some noise with his entry, facing off against Joel Greathouse in the finals in St. Louis. The very good looking camaro uses our large bore Nitrous Pro-IV Dominator and is powered by a very powerful Midwest Engine Tech built plant (815.464.9490). Traversing the quarter mile in 8.07 seconds, the car is a very strong performer and a major player everywhere it goes.
