Smooky’s Smokin’!
Horsepower and traction galore as Smooky Hall astounded the Drag Radial competitors with a shot in the stratosphere. Smooky's Precision Racing Development built 1990 camaro shows how much traction a Drag Radial can achieve. Smooky qualified number one in Drag Radial and broke the 7 second barrier. Check out this months "Showcase" for details.
Billy Glidden did it again.
Oh sure, he was Number one Qualifier at the World Street Nationals this weekend, but back at the Glidden Engine shop Billy really put the power down. Billy assembled an 8.2 deck 336 c.i. powerplant that put out 654 hp. What's so special about that? Well it was all off the shelf parts and NO PORTING. Billy said it was o.k. to post the combination in its entirety, so here it is:
Edelbrock Glidden Victor Jr. 18 degree Glidden CNC
heads
15:1 compression
Super Victor Intake
Comp Cams 253/262 roller cam
The 3.25 stroke 4.060 bore engine used one of our 1000 HP 4150 carbs to achieve the 650 h.p. level all the way up to 7200 rpm and an amazing 508 ft. lbs. of torque at 5700 rpm. No porting, no tricks. That’s serious grunt. Go ahead and build one or have your favorite engine builder assemble it for you. Check out this link:

BES wins $14,000
Speaking of powerful engines, the Engine Masters Challenge was a hotly contested event this year and BES Racing Engines showed up with a 409 c.i. powerplant and a 4150 Pro Systems carburetor to do battle. Bischoff Engine Service owner Tony Bischoff and employees Richard Kolb and Geoffery Breeden took home a check for $14,000 for their third-place finish. The hastily assembled 409 Windsor has 2.299 Chevrolet main journals and 1.888 Oldsmobile Quad-4 rod journals to reduce friction. We were in communication with Tony during the event offering tuning support. Pump gas is a tough fuel to tune. But thats not the only thing that's tough. Tony realized when he got there that this competition wasn't for fun, it was a dead serious event. Tony stated, "apparently some of these guys had worked all year on their combinations".
