In a certified speed trial, sanctioned by the National Powerboat Association,  Mike Fiore, president of Outerlimits Powerboats, averaged a speed of 161.29 MPH for a kilometer verified on ‘ state-of-the-art’ GPS in
his new 47’ canopied GTX, named “XXX”.

This makes the 47 GTX the first v-bottom to eclipse the 160 MPH barrier in an officially sanctioned event. The GTX is powered by two behemoth and proven reliable 1500 HP Sterling  Performance Engines and draws fuel through four
Pro Systems Dominator carburetors.

In IHRA Top Stock which is similar to NHRA Pro Stock of yesteryear, where the cars do big wheel stands on little tires.  Hall of Famer Paul Mercure and his Checkmate Camaro is the unstoppable force of the class. Recently he took on all comers at the IHRA Motor City Nationals scoring a 9.900 E.T. for the win in the final round.  Check out that launch.  Now that's cool.

Marco Abruzzi of Abruzzi Racing Transmissions is probably gonna do it again in 2004 in IHRA Top SportsmanAbruzzicompetition.  The 2003 IHRA World Champion scored another victory at the recent IHRA AC Delco Canadian Nationals to increase his points lead in the class.

In NSCA SUPER STREET competition Bischoff Racing Engines shocked everyone as Kenny Bennett used a set of KBennettour custom built Split Dominators to wipe out the Class record.  It now stands at a class dominating 7.267 @ 198.07  That's pretty unbelievable.

At the NMRA PRO Nationals in Bowling Green "Sponge Bob" Curran did something rather remarkable.  He was both the fastest and the slowest"Sponge Bob" Curran car on the track.  In Qualifying he was the fastest car, in the final round
he was the slowest.  Recording a 53 second pass that...GOT HIM THE
WIN!  What?!  Yes, Bob suffered an engine failure in the final round andwas rolling slowly toward the finishline as his competitor was all over the track.  His competition hit the wall causing a disqualification and Sponge Bob rolls across the line at 25 mph recording the win.  The slowest win in NMRA history.


Not slow however, is the Booze Brothers Pro-Stock entry.  They're the f
irst in the eight's, the first over 150 mph and were the number one qualifiers at the first two 2004 events.  Charlie Booze Jr., was the obvious guy for the winners’ circle in TCI/FAST Pro Stock.


 

In SCCA racing Tom Sloe shocked the GT-1 class by dropping the Mid-Ohio tracked record by not a tenth, not two tenths, but by 1.4 seconds!  Tom uses one of our state of the art Trans Am road racing carburetors
and a lot of guts to go into and out of the corners that fast.

In other SCCA news Andy McDiarmid using Felice power (616-527-9220) is cleaning up in A-Sedan winning four out of six races.  A-Sedan is like Trans Am of the old days.  It’s a very competitive highly populated class and there is some serious fender action during the events.  Look for McDiarmids Mustang to be at the top of the heap at the season ending SCCA Runoffs.

The 2004 NMRA Motorsports Nationals was the event to see in NMRA.  In Super Street Outlaw Sam Vincent was just plainSam Vincent awesome.  He not only made the quickest pass by a Nitrous car in the class at 7.704 (WOW!) he
grabbed the victory as well.  Now that's a great weekend.  Go Sam!
